New(ish) Car
We bought a car. It's a little blue 1991 Nissan Sentra imported from Japan some number of years ago. The car has 150,000 kilometers on it, and cost us about $1700 USD. It has a manual transmission, so wish me luck. I drive stick like twice a year. Fortunately, it has a new clutch; unfortunately, the speakers are prohibitively sucky, so we might need to upgrade that.

So, you had to go to New Zealand to buy a Japanese car!! Congratulations, it looks "sweet". The background looks like our backyard - trampoline and swing set! "It's a small world after all"
So do you have to get insurance and registration on it in that country? What kind of Job are you going for?
Hey Kev, Love all the pics... what a great adventure you guys are having! The car looks great, perfect for your needs, and don't worry, you will master your clutch after you have to stop on a hill a few times...LOL. I also enjoy reading the news from over there, it's great that you have the local paper on your blog!! Say wassup to Taylor for me :)
I finally got to catch up on a few missed days. The pictures are great, your commentary is wonderful. You got me with the great white!!! However, when you read in reverse, I had to question what the heck the seal on Bluff Beach wanted with your pipi's!!!!
Car looks great and I am sure it will give you and Taylor a new freedom to explore. Thanks for keeping us up to date. It is really great to follow along.
All our best to you and Taylor.
The backwards car... that must take some getting used to. It even looks wrong lol

Insurance isn't mandatory, but you have to have a Warrant of Fitness every 6 months ($30), and you have to pay for registration, which is about $200/yr.
Insurance is ridiculously cheap, I got 3 months of basic insurance for $140.
Prices in NZD.
I can't believe you all actually believed the great white story... lol. Taylor and I were cracking up.
Thanks for commenting, and saying hello. I'm glad you all are enjoying our travels.
Let's see now you shift with your left hand and all the gears are
opposite what you're used to. It's
probably easier for someone who drives and automatic. It would be
quite weird for me. Nice car nontheless. Noticed it was a Nissan.
You ought to rig the seats to fold
down and you could sleep in the car
save $60/night It'll buy dinner.
Or how about getting a tent and some
sleeping bags? Looks like plenty
of open spaces around.
